The measurements serve to detect potential “hot spots” in machinery spaces that could act as an ignition source in the event of a leak of flammable fluids (fuel or oil).

A “hot spot” is defined as any location with a surface temperature above 220 °C in accordance with SOLAS 74 / II-2/4.2.2.6.1.

Infrared thermographic surveys of machinery spaces and hot surfaces on board.
